Celebrating 177 Years of Photography

Share

This week, on August 19th, we celebrated World Photo Day. And since here, at million eyez, we simply couldn’t let this day go unnoticed, let’s celebrate with your best, most breathtaking photos…and a small history lesson;-)

Way back in 1837 two pioneers, Joseph Nicèphore Nièpce and Louis Daguerre, invented the first practical photographic process, called the Daguerreotype. While there were already previous photographic processes in existence, this was the first that could be put to practical use. In 1839, the French government purchased the patent for this process, and on August 19th, 1839, the patent was released for free as a gift to the world.

The official celebration of this day began in 2010, as a project to connect photographers and share a global gallery. Naturally, this project and many others like it share the essence of million eyez and eyez wide open.

So join the celebration, photography is back and better than ever!
