When in Rome…

All roads lead to Rome.

And for good reason – Rome is one of the most interesting cities in the world. Rome is a perfect destination for couples searching for some romance, students backpacking Europe for some adventure and even families looking to get away during the holidays. But with so much to do in this unique city, it’s easy to get lost and miss out on the “must-see” spots.

With our eyez on it, we’ve got you covered.

A walk through history
The first thing that comes to mind when hearing “Rome” is history. That makes sense, considering the fact that walking through the streets of Rome is like walking through a very large museum. Any random building might have a great story to it. The architecture is extremely unique, some of the building are older than you could possibly imagine and the amount of venues with religious significance is endless.
When trying to narrow down the possibilities, a couple of must-see spots come to mind.
Since you obviously can’t visit Rome without visiting some of the holy sites, The Vatican immediately crosses our minds. This autonomy, placed inside the Italian capital, is the holiest of all sites for Christians. Home of the pope. Sistine Chapel and Michelangelo’s famous ceiling painting. St. Peter’s Basilica and square. The Vatican museum, packed with amazing artifacts from throughout history. All of these spots are an absolute must, especially for history buffs and those who appreciate fine art of old.

Besides the religious sites, there are many other historic sites that require a visit. At the top of the list is The Colosseum, an amazing spectacle of architecture and history, was once home to gladiator battles and criminal punishment to the eyes of the empire. The Pantheon and the Roman Forum, both centers of interest in ancient times, are also must-see sites in Rome. The final two spots on our list of historic sites belongs to the Spanish steps and Trevi Fountain. These tourist hotspots don’t offer much, mostly sitting around or throwing coins and making a wish, but are top tourists spots – so don’t miss out!

History isn’t everything
Rome has much more to offer than just a big, long history lesson. Italy is known for its high-end fashion, and Rome is packed with shops perfect for anyone looking to splurge a little on a shopping spree. For those of you who aren’t interested in a wardrobe makeover, there is plenty more to do. The cuisine in Rome, as in any place in Italy, is simply amazing. The large Italian feasts in small and cozy restaurants, the perfect espresso at the end of the meal, the divine gelato at any random corner – come to Rome prepared to add on couple inches to your waistline. It’s inevitable. And when the sun starts to set, happy hour is on! Go to any of the many unique and romantic wine bars to get a taste of some delicious local wine. If gourmet meals are in your plans, Rome is home to some of the best in the world. If street food is on your mind, no better place than Rome. And when dinner time is up, as the hours start to change from late night to early morning, Rome offers some of the best parties in the world. The Ostiense and Trastevere neighborhoods are filled with enough bars and clubs to brighten the night and party ‘til morning. From the moment you wake up to the smell of rich coffee until the moment you crash into bed in the wee hours of the night, there is never a dull moment in Rome!

And remember, “when in Rome, do as the Romans do”, so walk around, enjoy the city and have fun!
